Meet the Team

Laura Oszust

Receptionist

I’m a lifelong New Yorker, the mother of four wonderful people, and I’ve been married my entire adult life. I enjoy biking, Scrabble-like word games and dressing up to dine in nice restaurants. Every job I’ve ever had has involved offering excellent customer service, so Dr. Rooney’s vision of creating a team that will offer patients personalized, customized care matches my experience- and it’s what we do.

Denise Benitez

Doctor Assistant

As one of eight children, I’m used to functioning in a busy environment, and I’m happy to be part of a practice where I’ve been able to learn new skills and help patients. Being fluent in Spanish has helped open our business to a broader community. My first love is the beach; I travel to visit relatives in El Salvador whenever possible and have experience as a children’s swimming instructor.

Kathleen Burgie Leon

Optical Sales/Ophthalmic Dispensing

I am a native New Yorker most of my life. I moved to Merrick to provide my youngest of 3 children a better education and a more structured setting. Starting as a receptionist at 17 and building my career for 33 years has given me an amazing set of skills in all areas of the optical field including sales, management and of course providing a comfortable setting for my patients.

I believe communication is the best approach. I am also a professional singer and enjoy doing that on my own time. My goal in life is to live each day to the fullest and enjoy my family.
